I say build your own and go AMD 64 bit with Hyper V and Windows 7.

Dell and HP make some okay ones.. but I think they are overpriced hunks of metal, you could build a way nicer AMD machine for less and not have to worry about the junk that HP tries to put on it.

I looked at some Dells and Hps

They all look like I will have to spend a lot more than $500 to get a good computer. So I am going to take what little hardware knowledge I have and try to build one.

What's a good site to buy computer parts from?

http://www.newegg.com/ has a lot of good deals on computer gear and they have really great customer service and speed of delivery. I buy almost exclusively from them.

http://www.buy.com also has some good deals on hardware but they are lacking in the customer service field.
