Reformatted Windows, DVD Drive Won't Work

Recommended Posts

I recently reformatted Windows but now my DVD drive isn't popping up in my control panel. In Device Manager it just has a yellow icon on it. When I put in a DVD with a movie or an installation disc nothing happens, it doesn't even spin up.

The drive was working fine before I reformatted it. It is detected in the BIOS and during startup POST.

The drive is a Samsung BA59-02702A TS-U633F

Do you mean you reformatted the hard disk and reinstalled windows. If so it looks like you have lost the drivers and will have to re-install them.

What to doRemove all devices with exclamation mark and any "Other devices" from Device Manager by highlighting them and pressing the delete key on the keyboard. Once they've all been removed reboot the computer and allow Windows to re-detect the devices.

If after rebooting the computer the Device Manager remains the same Windows is not installing the devices because it lacks the proper driver support. You'll need to download the latest drivers for that device.
