Opening attachements in Microsoft Outlook 2007 opens wrong applications

I have been opening several attachments which are saved on my computer and trying to save them in various formats. In the process, I must have changed some settings since when I, now, double click on attachments to emails coming in, they ope in "paint" software and not in the normal formats.

How do I regress back to the normal software for opening attachments on emails coming in to me?

It's actually a Windows settings, not an Office 2007 issue. You need to reconfigure your file associations. I can help ya but only if your running Windows 7 (as that's all I have installed right now).

1 - Click the Windows Start Button

2 - Type Extension and Click Change a file type associated with a file extension

3 - This will take you into File association menu that looks like this:

4 - Now just find the file extensions which are not opening up in the right applications, Click on them and the Click Change Program. From there it should be easy enough to figure out.
