Texts from IPOD touch

Is there a good way to send text messages to peoples phones from an ipod touch?

I guess a free iphone text message program would work too

 

I have an ipod touch 2g with the new 3.0 update and I have constant wifi access

Just use email. Every phone has an email address and every carrier pretty much a website you can goto in order to send the email by just typing in the #.
