mdobson
I have a 2005 model HP laptop. Thinking I should run a defrag because it is old and running slow. This has taken over 24 hours and still running. Is that normal?
bob williams
Before you try to defrag do a disc clean up. Then check to see how much free space is left on the hard disc. If its less than 10% then it will not defrag as defrag need some space to move files around. Also you can go into Control Panel and click on programmes uninstall and uninstall any programmes you have which you dont use. You should also disable any programme in startup that you don't need. This is a little bit more complicated and for this you have to go into system configuration so I'll leave that for the moment but if you are waiting a long time for your computer to start then repost and I'll run through how to do it. When your computer is defragging do not use any programmes. Just wait for it to finish. I say this because it is probably an old operating system such as Xp. Newer O/S don't seem to mind.
