I understand what your saying. Sure, you get a free xp machine but it's still 1 extra machine you need to manage, patch, support, protect etc... in the long run.

 

It is nice however in that old applications which would normally require App. compat testing can now easily be installed in the XP VM however, that being said I think there is more draw backs in the long run.

 

It's an age old problem for OS makers. They can make the latest and greatest however they don't control all the drivers, and other 3rd party software. It was probably the best idea at the time... Personally, I hope the final implementation of XP mode completly removes the XP interface and creates some sort of Softgrid bubble around the legacy software that requires XP for compatibility.
