They've changed their upgrade prices, even on the subscription model. Personally, I just use Gimp, it's free and open source. Aviary's Phoenix Editor also does pretty good. If you have the older version of CS5, it will cost $399 to go to CS5.5 - yeah 400 bucks to add a half a version....
