So, OpenAI is rolling out its newest generation of ChatGPT. GPT-4o, an extremely silly name IMO. It's supposed to bring ChatGPT closer to being like a replacement for Siri, Alexa, or Hey Google. My experience so far...I get it, the LLM just rolled out starting today, but I'm not impressed.

Let's talk about it, though. If you've had a chance to test it already, what are your thoughts? One good thing is that it's rolling out even to free users eventually, but I still have major concerns. Especially since, as I'm sure you know, OpenAI violated a ton of publishers' copyrights to train their first iteration.

What would you name ChatGPT-4 as you don't like the name?

Just use the full word "Omni." They've had GPT-4, GPT-4 Turbo...why get cutsie with just a single letter? Call it GPT-4 Omni, if that's what the "o" stands for.

I’ve been testing GPT-4o side-by-side with other models using Overchat AI — it’s a handy way to compare how different models handle the same prompt. It really helps when trying to see if GPT-4o is actually smarter or just faster. So far, results have been mixed.

I think you’re raising a really valid point — both about the name (yeah, “GPT-4o” definitely doesn’t roll off the tongue) and the broader implications. From a technical standpoint, it’s interesting to see OpenAI aiming for more real-time, voice-assistant-like interactions, but if it’s being positioned as a Siri/Alexa competitor, the expectations for responsiveness, context awareness, and reliability are much higher than what most LLMs have delivered so far.

I’ve played around with it a bit, and while the model feels faster and a bit more “conversational,” I haven’t seen anything radically new yet in terms of reasoning or contextual memory. It still feels like a work in progress — more evolution than revolution.

And yes, the copyright concerns remain a huge issue. It’s hard to fully embrace these tools knowing the training data landscape has been so murky. Transparency is still sorely lacking, and it’s frustrating that ethical concerns haven’t caught up with the pace of rollout.

Curious to hear more impressions as others test it out longer.
