how to restore .exe assocation

when I open some .exe file, a pop up said(things of that kind)"please go to control panel and make the association with the program" I had taken a look on the file association, there was no .exe but only .exc(notepad). i had Google and download a so called .reg( original file association of win7) but it didn't work.

 

Q:

how to solve it? as some program I can't open but some can, so I had to solve it.
