(NB The computer was shutdown while Outlook was not closed...battery down..power outage and i was not at home!!) The second image is of search for the scanpst.exe and the third image that it can not be found. I have read through the board and i am not geeky enough to understand all of this. I realized that i have to search for the repairer manually. A step by step guide will be greatly appreciated. Compliments of the season to all. You have the location of the file from the screenshot so go there and make a copy of it. Copy is to a location outside of the default folder as well. Next step is to try and repair it the easy way. Right Click on it and see if there are any Previous Versions you can use. THere should be a tab which shows if any previous versions exist. Hopefully there is one. Here's more info on Previous Versions: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... -questions If not, then with the version of the file that you copied (not the original) try to run Scanpst.exe on it. To find Scanpst.exe look in these locations: Where the file is located depends on which version of Windows you are using: * disk drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE12 (it's probably here) * disk drive:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12 * disk drive:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033\ * disk drive:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033\NT * disk drive:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033 * disk drive:\Program Files(x86)\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033\ * disk drive:\Program Files(x86)\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033 http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;287497 you should be able to do a search for Scanpst.exe on your hard drive to find it. Once you find it double click on it and launch it. There is also a \Microsoft\Outlook\Archive.pst file. Can not open that as well. Please see the screenshots by the way how do i embed the screenshot in the post so that it is large. Pls let me know so that i can continue. No still not working. I repaired both the files..one is outlook and the other was when G-mail was working with outlook. Hey Mr. Groove Hope your holiday is better than mine I think i was not to clear in my replies back so here to recap.. I am using 2007 I was able to find the repair tool. I note that there is two repair tools one is a OST will it help if i ran that to? I made a copy (Back up)of the pst files in another folder ( there are two..one was created when i used g-mail with outlook) I ran the tool and it claimed that both the pst files were repaired. I then tried to start outlook and the same notification came that Outlook can not be opened. I ran the the repair tool again and went through the whole procedure. I still can not open outlook. No No i was now looking to make a sreenshot of the folder with the Pst files and it is nowhere! I still have the backup though aaaaaghhh!! ok it is here i left the \local settings\ out.. So guys what next. ?? Thanks for your time during the holidays to help me out. Ok - First it's good to hear you made a copy of the PST files you are trying to repair. My question is did you repair the backup copies of the PST files or the PST files which are sitting in the Outlook profile? I ask because if you repair the backup PST files, when you launch Outlook again it's going to still be trying to open outlook and the corrupt PST files and obviously your going to have the same problem. So, my recommendation is to do the following: 1 - Create folder called c:\outlook-temp 2 - Goto c:\documents and settings\carl\applicaiton data\microsoft\outlook and copy *.pst to the new Folder c:\outlook-temp 3 - Delete the PST files in c:\documents and settings\carl\application data\microsoft\outlook 4 - Create a subfolder c:\outlook-temp\original\ 5 - Copy the PSt files from c:\outlook-temp to c:\outlook-temp\original Now, you should have 2 copies of your PST files. One copy in c:\outlook-temp\original and one copy in c:\outlook-temp\ 6 - Run the SCANPST.exe tool on the PST files in c:\outlook-temp\ 7 - Copy the repaired PST files back to your Outlook profile - c:\documents and settings\carl\application data\microsoft\outlook 8 - Open Outlook Result? Take the original PST files can copy them to the folder c:\ So, you made the backups of the PST files and that's good. Where those the PST files you repaired?
