I'm not too knowledgeable about networking and routers. Pretty much all I know is how to set up a router to create a wireless network, and that's all I've been using it for currently. I like playing games online (most notably League of Legends), and living with a big family on an 'ok' internet connection just won't cut it. For example, I'll start playing a game, and then someone else will start watching Netflix, making my game virtually unplayable.
A friend mentioned about using router firmware to create a stable ping. He didn't really know much on the topic, but it sparked my curiosity. Is this even possible? And if so, will it have any negative effects to other users on the network. (Essentially, can I play my game on a playable ping without being an internet hog?)
League of Legends Support led me to something about QoS, but as I read further into the article it seems it's about prioritizing bandwidth? (Again, I don't want to be an internet hog)
Any insight into this topic would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

When I try to login to my router at 192.168.1.1 it accepts my username and password but just displays the message " (192.168.1.2) is managing this device " with a blank white screen, nothing else is visible. Is there anyway to fix this? I can't access my router control panel because of this.

I'm in the market for a good WIFI router/switch/repeater. Looking for something with at least 5 1Gig ports and the ability to repeat/extend the signal to another Access Point which is up stairs so i don't need to run wired Ethernet to the other side of the house.
Looking online, This Western Digital N900 looks nice however it doesn't appear to have the repeater functionality.
Anyone buy anything recently which is working out well? Or got a tip on something out there?
      Thnx

I am looking to back up and possibly actively mirror a folder across multiple computers in a network. I have a test folder that will work for testing, but the files in this folder will be edited and saved on multiple computers in the same day a small garage fire in the spring destroy most everything that was active so in the network will have computers in the garage, shop, and house, along with a network drive in the house.
test files will be from the electric sheep program, and on 2 computers and a network drive another computer or network drive needs to be set up as a time machine backup in case a file gets accidentally deleted or saved wrongfully. "C:ProgramDataElectricSheepcontent" "\WDMYCLOUDSmartWareElectric Sheep" "\FRED-505ElectricSheepContent"
A 4th location can be kept for a time machine backup of which I also do not know how to do.
Windows 7/8 are my primary OS's
