StREAMs@>! r.E.d.d.i.t-MASTERS GOLF 2022 LIVE Broadcast ON 7 April 2022

The most wonderful time of the golf season arrives Thursday as the beauty of April surrounds Augusta National Golf Club. Though the skies may have been a bit darker than usual early in the week rain has been constant through the first few days with practice rounds being called off Tuesday and Wednesday in the afternoon -- there's no doubt the 2022 Masters is set to be another star-studded affair.

The loaded field taking on Augusta this week features most of the best golfers in the world. Hideki Matsuyama is defending the green jacket, while most others in the field are looking to join him as first-time winners by the time the final round rolls around on Sunday.

The cameras were pointing at Tiger Woods. Had they turned the other way they would have happened upon the picture of the day, a starstruck wanderer, eyes on stalks, beer frozen in his hand as he clocked the vision passing before him.

When he pulled the Wednesday practice day from the ballot, Masters Man would have hoped for a sighting but without any ticket guarantee. Woods was out in the first tee slot of the day, 8am. It was pure luck that our friend should emerge from the shrubbery by the 18th fairway at the precise moment Woods strode into view.

It was just about the only spot beside the fairway free of spectators since the sodden ground sloped steeply offering insufficient purchase even in spikes. Our friend looked as if he had stepped out of a dream only to realise he wasn’t dreaming.

The build-up to this year’s Masters has all been about Tiger Woods and whether or not the five-time champion will play.

But ahead of the opening round at Augusta, Standard Sport predicts four players who will be vying for their first Green Jacket come Sunday.

The Australian looks so at ease at Augusta, the undulating course appearing to play perfectly to his strengths, and his runner-up spot in 2020 is among three top-10 finishes in five Augusta appearances.

A two-time winner on Tour this year, most notably at the Players, he ought to be among the leading contenders.

Rory McIlroy starts at 19:33, alongside Matt Fitzpatrick and Brooks Koepka.

Tom Watson will join Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player as an honorary starter for the first time, with the trio hitting tee shots on the first at 13:15.

Watson, 72, won the second of his two Green Jackets in 1981 and he will join 82-year-old six-time champion Nicklaus and three-time winner Player, 86, for the ceremonial start to the tournament.

The Masters Groups and tee times for Thursday's first round at Augusta National

Tiger Woods paired with Louis Oosthuizen and Joaquin Niemann with 3.34pm start Rory McIlroy in final group at 7.03pm; watch The Masters throughout the week live from Augusta National exclusively live on Sky Sports Golf with Featured Group coverage from 2pm on Thursday.
