upgrading iphone from 4.2.1 to ios 5

Yes, its possible.....Just connect your iPhone to your computer, open itunes and it will show you a popup screen that a new update is available. Click on Download and install and it will update your iphone (considering the fact that you have a factory unlocked phone or one from the carrier). if its software unlocked, i would suggest that you should stick to 4.2.1

Hi Sal,

Upgrading to ios 5 all depends on what iPhone you have got.

If you have an iPhone 3GS or higher then you can upgrade to ios 5 and will be able to upgrade to ios 6 when its available.

If you have an iPhone 3g then unfortunately the highest supported operating system is 4.2.1

If you haven't yet been offered the upgrade then its likely that you have an iPhone 3g

If you are unsure what iPhone you have then look at the back of the phone near the bottom for the model number. The apple website lists the iPhone 3g as model number A1241 and the 3GS as model number A1303

Like Simon said, if you're not offered the upgrade from a fully upgraded iTunes install, it's probably because your phone does not support it. :(
