Has anyone else tried Chromium OS by using Flow?

I am intrigued by the idea of a Chromebook but can't really justify buying a new computer. So, I just successfully got Chromium OS booting from an SD card on my ASUS EEEPc. So far, it feels just like running Chrome (the browser). Was wondering if anyone had any success or failure with Flow or any other homebrew Chromium OS build. My guess is that it works really well on my ASUS cuz it's similar to an Acer, hardware-wise. But aside from the lack of 3G I can't see why my EEEPC with Flow/Chromium OS is any less special than the Acer Chromebookhttp://chromeos.hexxeh.net/

How does it compare to a say a Chromebook?

It really isn't. Chromebooks are wildly overpriced, and junk unless you can dual-boot. Google is just trying its hand at marketing in the same fashion Apple does.

Wow that was fast Jack - Unfortunately no. I've not tested it out yet. Looks like your way ahead of me on this one!

 

And yeah, like Dex said there probably is little difference between your ASUS netbook and the Chromebook. No 3G but really, who cares. My recommendation would be to get a MiFI Wireless 4G Hub anyway. I'm using mine right now on my MacBook Air and iPhone at the same time. And when I get home I'll be using it on my iPad also (It's faster than my home internet connection now that I live out in the woods....).

How quickly does the thing boot?

On another note, I'm jealous of your MiFi. I wanted to get 4G instead of Comcast when I moved, but unfortunately, they don't have it out in my remote neck of the woods.

Probably also worth mentioning that it doesn't appear to perform any faster than running Chrome in Ubuntu. Probably not tapping the full potential of the hardware due to driver issues...

Oh duh, I should've noticed this -- it took 26 seconds to boot to the login screen. It shows it in the left-hand corner.

Well Chromium has been fun so far but I feel like running another super small distro of Linux with Chromium might achieve the same thing. Going to try some and compare
