I recently reformatted Windows but now my DVD drive isn't popping up in my control panel. In Device Manager it just has a yellow icon on it. When I put in a DVD with a movie or an installation disc nothing happens, it doesn't even spin up. The drive was working fine before I reformatted it. It is detected in the BIOS and during startup POST. The drive is a Samsung BA59-02702A TS-U633F

I have an older, but not too old Western Digital 1TB External drive: USB 3.0 It stopped working following a Windows Update. I'm running Windows 8. The drive still works on my Mac and it still works on my laptop so I'm not sure what's going wrong with the Windows 8 desktop.

Ordered a new CPU for an older PC and there's all kinds of gunk on it. Figured out this was thermal paste, but how do you remove it safely?

My PC is having problems with drivers ever since reformatting Windows. I need to figure out which drivers go to it but I don't know the ID numbers that match up so I don't know which driver to install and Windows is being dumb and not pulling them automatically. Is there anyway to find the device info without opening up the box and trying to look at the physical components?

I'm in the market for a good WIFI router/switch/repeater. Looking for something with at least 5 1Gig ports and the ability to repeat/extend the signal to another Access Point which is up stairs so i don't need to run wired Ethernet to the other side of the house. Looking online, This Western Digital N900 looks nice however it doesn't appear to have the repeater functionality. Anyone buy anything recently which is working out well? Or got a tip on something out there? Thnx

I bought a Kindle Fire a few months ago while visiting my daughter in the California. I live in South Africa. There appears to be no Amazon Kindle support here.The Fire worked OK until a week ago. Now, if I try to execute any app, it pops up on the screen but immediately reverts to the Home page and the Home ikon can been seen flashing in the bottom right hand corner. Any ideas on what the problem could be and what can I do about it?

I reformatted the laptop after installing a new hard drive in my Sony Vaio and now it isn't letting me use the brightness function keys anymore. The function volume keys still work, it's just the brightness ones that aren't going very well. Is there a software requirement or something I'm missing?

It's that time.... I need to upgrade the system at home a bit. Does anyone have a GREAT monitor they just bought or have you recently done some research you can share with me? Also, if you have any links to some good deals, please share! My old setup before I gave it to someone in the family was 2 DELL Ultrasharp 24 inch monitors however I'm hearing Samsung has some pretty nice gear out there now. Thanks!

Yo all, here's the deal - I've got a ATi Radeon HD 4850, quite good, but it's kind of giving me a headache when it comes to running newer games - 15-20 frames on GTA IV with high settings doesn't sound good to me... So the deal is - do I crossfire my current 4850 with another one or do I just buy a new GPU, like a 6950 or a 6970? It's a tough decision to make - just to note - it's not really about the money here, it's just that I'm not 100% sure if the 6000 series is right for me. I've always been an Intel Bigot but now days, does it really matter? It seems like most of the software out there works just fine on both and when you look at the prices. I see several hundred ($$$) reasons to go AMD. Thoughts? What does the Crowd Wisdom say about this one?
