2015 Black Friday and Cyber Monday Shopping Deals

Malwarebyte's has a BF deal for its premium membership. Normally it's $24.95 for a 12 month subscription. With the sale, you get 18 months for the same price...an extra half a year. You can find it at the following link: http://www.groovypost.com/out/malwarebytes

    Windows 10 on usb drive

@David Bailey: That's a good question. I wasn't able to put it on a USB drive either when I first downloaded it, but to get to it quickly I just burned a DVD. I will look into that situation as soon as I can and will get an article up on it or add it to our new http://windows10forum.com/ Which I encourage all Windows 10 enthusiasts to join! Sigh...if only humans weren't required to sleep.
  7. Instead of shutting down your computer all the time, I would suggest putting it into Hibernate mode. It's a low-power state and will allow you to pick up right where you left off -- much faster that a complete reboot every day.

    Any suggestions for antivirus?

Definitely Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows XP through Windows 7. http://www.groovypost.com/howto/news/microsoft-security-essentials-2-0-the-only-windows-antivirus-you-need/ Windows 8 has Antivirus and malware security software built in by default.http://www.groovypost.com/howto/windows-defender-windows-8-microsoft-security-essentials/ Mac can definitely get viruses and other types of malicious code. One program you might want to try is Avast for OS X -- http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-mac And you might also want to check out this article: Five Ways to Keep Your Mac Secure:http://www.groovypost.com/howto/five-ways-secure-mac/

    Welcome TechGroove Listeners!

Yup. Had a great time last night on episode #23 with Bogdan joining from Romania. In fact, Mr. Bele came up with the groovy show title: Apocalyptic Photo Filters This last episode is the last one for 2012, but provided the world doesn't end in two days, we'll be back on our regular schedule to bring in the new year of groovy tech!
  13. We're currently 23 shows in with TechGroove and just now setting up a forum ... yeah yeah, we're slacking. But here's where you can come and share your views on what we talk about on the show, and any other topics you'd like to bring up...except criticizing the show! Just kidding ... we'll talk about that too. Let us know if you'd like to hear us talk about something, disagree with what you hear, or have any suggestions -- (maybe give Josh a hard time about being an Apple user If you're a regular listener and reader of groovyPost, we'd like to have you on the show some time. As the show continues to grow and we get more participation in the forum, we'll expand it to include more topics. So for now, welcome aboard and feel free to introduce yourself and share you're views on tech!

    Windows 8 Desktop

It sounds like you can just change the file associations. Here's an article on how to do it in Windows 8... http://www.groovypost.com/howto/windows-8-change-default-programs-metro/ In fact, this is very handy if you don't want your music, videos and photos opening in the Metro style apps and just on the desktop.
